Meet Sean Rice: Sugar Mill's New Head Golf Professional

Written by Sugar Mill Country Club | February 17, 2026

Sean Rice learned golf playing alongside his grandfather at Riomar Country Club in Vero Beach. Those rounds taught him that golf creates lasting bonds between people. That foundation shaped everything that followed.

By high school, Sean competed seriously enough to see a career path. After studying Business Management at Indian River State College, he spent several years in golf operations to give others the experiences that made him love the game.

Now he's bringing that passion to Sugar Mill as the club's new Head Golf Professional.

Where It All Started

Sean spent over a decade at Florida's top private clubs. At Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club in Vero Beach, he learned how member-focused programs work. As Assistant Golf Professional at The Club at Mediterra in Naples, he managed tournaments, daily operations, and worked with golfers at every level.

He learned to balance competing demands: high standards with welcoming atmosphere, structured events with the relaxed feel members value.

Your Goals, Your Game

Sean's approach is simple: create space for members to enjoy golf on their terms. Many members have been part of this community for years. He's here to learn what makes this place special and build on what works.

You'll find him on the course, in the shop, at member events. He wants to hear what's working, what could improve, and what you're hoping to achieve.

His teaching focuses on practical adjustments, not overhauling your swing. He'll ask about your goals, then work on changes that help you reach them.

Strengthening Sugar Mill Golf

Sean's building on Sugar Mill's foundation: 27 holes of private play, engaged members, a course with variety.

The junior program excites him most. Not every kid connects with golf immediately. When they do, the right environment makes all the difference. He's expanding opportunities for junior golfers to develop skills and build friendships.

For adults, he's developing a tournament schedule with range: competitive events for players testing themselves, relaxed formats for friendly play. Multiple entry points throughout the year.

He's also keeping members informed about course updates, upcoming events, program changes. Connection strengthens community.

Life Beyond the 18th Hole

Sean is settling into New Smyrna Beach with his wife Carol and their rescue dog, Grace. He follows college football and basketball, enjoys time on the water, watches golf when he's not playing or teaching it.

He's already getting to know the Sugar Mill community. There will be many more conversations on the course, in the shop, around the club.

Sugar Mill's golf program just gained someone who cares about making it thrive. Welcome, Sean!
